Motorsports training tells us that you go to where you look, so as we crest the hill heading for the March 9-10, 2024, Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty and Track Event at VIRginia International Raceway, we have to ask: Where are your eyes looking?
We’re biased, so it goes without saying that if you call east of the Mississippi home, you need to be in Virginia for that second weekend in March. And if you don’t live east of the Mississippi, you should still head to this Time Trials National Tour. Why? We’ll tell you.
Actually, we’ll let others tell you, but we’ll set the scene.
Last year’s Time Trials National Tour and Track Event at VIR saw a car show hosted by Driver Motorsports, with more than 150 show cars entered and hundreds of spectator tickets sold. That event was the beginning of a mashup concept that involved a Time Trials National Tour, a Track Event, and a car show, and it was a resounding success, bringing fantastic times and changing the face of Time Trials National Tours in 2024 and beyond.
The event also spawned several YouTube videos you can put your eyes on.
On Track with Gears & Gasoline
With more than a million subscribers, Gears & Gasoline has made a name for itself with automotive and motorsports YouTube videos. Back in March 2023, Ben Lin, Ben Thorn, and Luke Kocklier headed to VIR during that year’s Time Trials National Tour and Track Event for a four-cylinder showdown between a Toyota MR2 and a Honda Civic.
The two Bens set their own pace on track during the event, with some expected – and several unexpected – outcomes. The duo then introduce Kocklier to the video, where he takes part in the Track Event portion in a Honda Fit for his very first track day.
Car Shows with Alex Martini
Entering (and winning) car shows is a foreign concept to many SCCA members. We’re here for the driving, after all – but being that the Time Trials National Tour and Track Event at VIR will once again house a car show, you should learn more about it because, well, cars of any kind are cool!
Alex Martini strolled the paddock at last year’s VIR Time Trials National Tour and gave his 342,000 YouTube subscribers a look at the Driver Motorsports car show that took place in the paddock. He also broke down what goes into winning a car show. It’s a seven-minute crash course on something automotive you likely don’t know much about.
That’s not all.
At the same Time Trials National Tour, Martini and three of his friends show the other side of the event’s car show by heading to the event in cars from Driver Motorsports. From picking up JDM cars at Driver Motorsports to the drive there to hanging out in the paddock of the SCCA event, Martini offers an inside look at what goes on in the paddock while you’re out on track.
